The Voice of Buck Lane

Your privacy matters to us. Here is exactly what we collect and why.

What We Collect When You Vote

When you cast a vote on Poll Street, we store:

  • A one-way hash of your browser fingerprint — this is a scrambled code derived from your screen size, timezone, and browser type. We cannot reverse it to identify you.
  • A one-way hash of your IP address — again, scrambled and irreversible. We use this only to prevent vote-stuffing.
  • Your vote choice — which option you selected.
  • A timestamp — when you voted.

What We Do NOT Collect

  • Your name, email, or any personal contact details
  • Your actual IP address (only a hash)
  • Your location (beyond what timezone your browser reports)
  • Any cookies for tracking or advertising

Why We Hash

We use one-way hashing (like a digital paper shredder) so we can detect duplicate votes without ever knowing who you are. Even if our database were breached, the hashes cannot be reversed to reveal your identity.

No Tracking, No Ads

Poll Street does not use cookies for tracking. We do not serve advertisements. We do not share any data with third parties. The vote page uses a small amount of JavaScript to generate the browser fingerprint hash and submit your vote — that is all.

Data Retention

Vote records are kept for as long as the poll is active and archived. We may periodically purge very old response data. Hashed fingerprints and IP hashes have no personal value and pose no privacy risk if retained.

Your Rights

Since we do not collect personal data, there is nothing to request deletion of. However, if you have any concerns about privacy, please contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we will be happy to help.

Changes to This Policy

If we change how we handle data, we will update this page. Last updated: March 2026.
